At the end of the last update, an heir had been chosen (but not named) and the first generation of Lawson kids were all headed off to college. Sounds straightforward, right?
To begin with, here's a quick look at what the non-heirs looked like as young adults.
Benjamin looked a bit better than he had done as a teen, but I'm really not sure about those cheekbones.
Brutus was really plain. The white suit didn't help, admittedly, but regardless of dress there was something alarmingly simian about his face.
Bella was downright freaky looking, if you ask me.
Bree was totally pretty, just as she's always been.
Britannicus was still totally cute too, which just leaves...
Bethany, who was my choice for heir. It was a toss-up between her and Britannicus, and in the end Bethany won out due to my loyalty to Mary. Bethany didn't turn out stunning, but she had an interesting, and slightly old-fashioned look to her.
NO, BETHANY IS NOT GOING TO CALL YOU.
This chap is a good representation of the general standard of attractiveness within the dorm.
This shop assistant was much more like it, but Bethany had to dash off to class before I could have them interact.
Bethany had a makeover.
And so did Britannicus, because I liked him too much to stop playing him like the other siblings.
This chick was the best looking dormie. She looks fine... until you notice the eyebrows o.O
HAHAHA. This kid makes me want to do a fugacy.
No point to this shot other than the fact that I liked it.
Y HELLO THAR.
She didn't think much of Bethany, unfortunately. They'd start off chatting pleasantly and it'd quickly disintegrate into an argument.
Autonomous primping! ♥
The postie was pretty cute...
...so I sent Brit out to befriend him.
Bethany met this cute chick on an outing to the uni quad.
Unfortunately, it seemed she was unable to sustain a positive conversation with anyone.
Um. I took Britannicus to the park too. This guy was okay, although I wasn't sure about the nose.
Another makeover for Bethany.
Britannicus splashing in puddles in the middle of a rainstorm, wearing pyjamas at the Student Union.
It was around about now that I realised that loyalty was getting me absolutely nowhere. Meaning?
Meet the real heir of generation two - Britannicus. Call me fickle, but in the end, I just had to change my mind.
I sent the new heir out to the college park to
This decent chap was there as well. Given that the college seemed filled to the brim with people I wouldn't allow into my legacy even if I were stoned, Orlando here seemed like a relatively great prospect, even with the big nose.
Britannicus proved that my faith in him was not misplaced by catching a catfish the very first time he tried fishing. I was pathetically proud ;)
He and Orlando got along very well, and eventually they became best mates. But HOLD THE PRESSES!
HELLO CASTOR NOVA!
Okay, so he doesn't look much with those ghastly green sunnies, but I'm enough of a Legacy junkie to recognise good genes when I see them - especially when I've already seen them pop up in plenty of other Legacies on LJ ;) I didn't realise at this point that he is actually a playable Sim, but given that I'm not playing strictly by the rules anyway, I figured that there's very little difference between an NPC and a playable sim that you don't actually play.
All that dithering seemed pointless, as their first conversation was far from successful.
Brit tried again, though, with far more success. Soon they were bonding over their mutual love of sci-fi.
What's more, Castor liked what he saw.
Oh no! Argument?
Nope, just Britannicus's alien impression.
It was getting late, so Brit headed back to the dorm – and hung his prize on the wall for everyone to admire.
A demonstration of how stupid dormies are: I moved these two beds to the roof so that I could give Bethany and Britannicus better ones. Regardless of the weather, there were dormies actually using them to sleep in, despite the fact that they all HAD THEIR OWN ROOMS.
Typical knowledge Sim. Well, apart for the reading-an-upside-down-book bit.
Castor came over for a date...
...and Britannicus had his first kiss!
The date was going swimmingly, when...
First fire of the Legacy! It doesn't really count, given that it was started by the Cafeteria slave and Brit wasn't even aware of it happening, but still ;)
Meanwhile, the new couple was being all romantic in the falling snow.
The guys went out on a second date, and Castor fell in love.
Britannicus soon followed suit.
Castor had rolled the want on a date, so Brit pledged Castor's Greek House and got in.
At this point, I decided the 14-room dorm was getting a bit ridiculous, so I decided to move Brit out. Originally I was going to send him to the Greek House, but then I realised that would require my actually playing Castor, so I sent him to a smaller dorm instead.
Please note Bethany and Bree waving goodbye gleefully, completely unaware that they're about to be forced to drop out.
Britannicus headed off in a taxi to a sibling-free dormitory, and the other five B-Generation kids dropped out of uni.
And now for a few final shots of the non-heirs as adults.
Benjamin improved a little more, but there was still something weird about his face.
Brutus remained really creepy looking.
Bethany stayed really pretty, although I didn't feel even the slightest pang of regret about stealing her heir-dom away from her.
Bella looked much better as an adult. Her eyes were still too high to be a good genetic risk, but she turned out a lot more attractive than expected.
Bree still looked pretty much the same as she'd looked ever since toddler-hood.
Britannicus moved into his new, 6-bed dormitory and snazzified his bedroom with all the grant money he'd won due to keeping an A+ average.
He soon put his new double bed to use.
Woo! I love it when Dream Dates result in random gifts. I guess it was a pretty good first woohoo for them both if it warranted a stereo as a thank you.
This? Is creepy. Brit and Castor are woohooing in the hot-tub and Bethany is just standing there watching them go for it. Not really appropriate behaviour from a half-sister.
Also, why oh why oh why do Sims born in-game always seem to age into those hideous boots?
After another Dream Date (they were pretty much a daily occurrence throughout college), Castor dropped this off. He certainly knew how to win his way into a knowledge Sim's heart :D
Finally – and I do mean finally, given that Uni takes forever – it was time for Brit to graduate. Not a great look for him, unfortunately.
With the knowledge that he was about to move back into the family home and would be able to support a family, Brit got down on one knee and proposed to his first love.
Castor was quick to accept. I was hopeful that the positive memory meant that he wasn't a romance Sim ;)
Even graduating is a cause for checking yourself out.
The graduation party over, it was time for Britannicus to get old.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Uni over and done with, Brit had a quick makeover and moved back into the family home, bringing his $20,000 college leaving fund with him.
With a good amount of money in the bank, it was time for the Lawson family to finally build a decent house on their massive block. The stripe down the middle of the bathroom is a split level – to deter any future toddlers from toilet paddling.
As heir, it was time for Britannicus to find a job. Luckily, there was a Natural Science position open right away.
Meanwhile, Mary made it to the top of her own career path. She's now Chief of Staff and is picked up by a limo every morning. Nice.
Once settled back into the family home, Britannicus was eager to tie the knot with Castor, so the boys held a low-key ceremony in the front room.
Apparently Brit qualified as a rich Sim! Castor received aspiration points for the wedding too :)
The ceremony over, it was time to seal their marriage vows with a kiss.
Knowledge (no wonder he knew what to get Brit!)
Next stop – lots of babies!
